Details: Hello there! My name is Brandon Ching and I am a PhD student in Public Administration at Arizona State University. I received my MPA from San Diego State University in 2006 where I focused in information technology. I have extensive experience in Internet and technology related fields with certifications in UNIX system administration (UCSD) and computer forensics (GCFA) and training and experience with operating system and network security.
By day I am a web application developer with 5-years+ experience in PHP/MySQL (LAMP) application development utilizing technologies such as: AJAX, shell scripting, Javascript, various PHP frameworks, GIS applications, C, Java, and other languages and technologies. I am currently exploring mobile application development for the Google Android platform and hope to complete my first application in the next few months. My research interests lie in the use of information technology in government; particularly with open-source software adoption as well as the government's use of Internet technologies as a means of social control and coercion.
In my spare time I enjoy reading and working on various programming projects. I am an avid runner (at least I was before I started this PhD program ;) and competitive badminton player; having coached a number of teams and played in many local, state, and national badminton tournaments. I also enjoy cooking, being outdoors, shooting, photography, and spending time with my family.
